AUDITION FOR NEWSIES!

READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY AND PREPARE MATERIALS AS NOTED BELOW BEFORE SUBMITTING

Extra! Extra! Read All About It! Disney’s Newsies celebrates America’s spirit with a high-energy, family-friendly musical to kick off FestivalSouth 2026 in star-spangled style! The Hub City Players return with another Broadway smash hit packed with non-stop dance, heart-pounding music, and an unforgettable story based on the Disney film. With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and book by Harvey Firestein, this special limited engagement is licensed by Music Theatre International.

 

SHOW DATES

June 4 – 6, 2026 to open FestivalSouth 2026


REHEARSAL DATES

January 9 – 11, 2026
April 15 – June 6 , 2026

Evenings 6 – 10 p.m.

Saturday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Sunday 2 p.m. – 10 p.m.

 

We make every effort to minimize call times within the above parameters based on demands, casting, conflicts, and preparedness. Regular breaks and meals will be observed.

 

NEWSIES CAMP
If cast in the show, all must attend this training camp.

January 9 – 11, 2026

                  Friday, January 9, 2026 – 6 – 10 p.m.

                  Saturday, January 10, 2026  -10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

                  Sunday, January 11, 2026  - 2 - 7 p.m.

ROLES AVAILABILE

This audition is for Newsies ONLY of all genders. Adult roles will be handled at a later time.

 

AUDITION POLICY

Auditions are open to post-high-school age performers of all genders and individuals of all performance backgrounds.The Hub City Players are committed to casting without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, or disability, except where specific roles require particular characteristics as an artistic necessity. All casting decisions are made in alignment with applicable equal opportunity laws.

We value preparedness, professionalism, and respect in all our productions. Actors should arrive at auditions, rehearsals, and performances fully prepared, having reviewed all required materials in advance. Consistent availability for scheduled rehearsals and performances is essential and may affect casting decisions. We ask that all cast and crew maintain a positive, collaborative attitude and treat colleagues, staff, and audiences with courtesy at all times. Our goal is to foster a supportive, inclusive, and professional environment where everyone can do their best work together.

 

ROUND ONE: ONLINE SUBMISSIONS
 
Accepted through December 1, 2025
 

All submissions must include updated resume, headshot, vocal audition video, and dance audition video. Prepare these materials before clicking submission link. You should also have a prepared list of all possible conflicts within the rehearsal times listed above. 

 

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
Create two separate video files for submission.
 

VOCAL AUDITION: Video of you singing no more than two selections from the audition folder below.. Music with cuts marked, a demo vocals, and accompaniment tracks are included in the folder. 

DANCE AUDITION: Create a file of you recreating the dance found in the audition folder below. Follow instructions carefully. 

 

From the choreographers:
 

There are two (2) demonstration videos – a front view with music and a back view with counts and mirror reflection. On the provided track, the Dance sequence begins just after the 2:00 mark in “Seize the Day” song. We understand that all performers are not advanced dancers. We simply want to see your skill level at this point – do your best.

 

YOU MAY MODIFY ELEMENTS YOU ARE NOT READY TO ATTEMPT:

 For example:

  • Instead of the toe touch, you could perform a “spread eagle” or any other expansive jump.

  • Instead of a double or triple turn, you can do a single.

 

At the end of your audition video, please continue performing 16 – 32 counts of FREESTYLE DANCE. This is your opportunity to showcase any skills we did not include and any advanced skills/tricks that you can do, for example:

  • Turning disc

  • Switch leaps

  • Å la secondé turns

  • Fouette turns

  • Tour jeté

  • Rondé jambe en l’air (Fanning tuck jump

  • 540

  • C jumps/turns

  • Second leaps

  • Barrel turns

  • Straddle press

  • Russians

  • Handstands

  • Acrobatics

  • Aerial moves

 

If advanced dancing/acrobatics are not your thing, please use the counts to showcase expressive strong motions with intentions and high energy.
